String Area

Welcome to UMBC’s String Area! If you are looking for an undergraduate program that has personalized, imaginative and career-building opportunities, you have come to the right place.

Our faculty who have garnered accolades nationally and internationally as soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians, are devoted and committed to your growth as a musician and individual. Performance opportunities are abundant and you will have the chance to work with all of the string faculty at some point during your four years at UMBC. One of the special features of our program is “Side-by-side” concert for deserving graduating students in a professional concert series with faculty and guest artists. (See below for some of the past concerts!) We have had our students perform with Jonathan Carney, the concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as well as Amadi Azikiwe, renown violist and conductor. We also have annual masterclasses with  Daniel Heifetz (violin) and David Yang (viola) and other guest artists.
