Mr. Wayne Cameron

Wayne Cameron, dynamic performer/ teacher is the reason you should come to UMBC to study trumpet! A former member of the North Carolina Symphony, Mr. Cameron has performed with the London Symphony (England) at the age of 20, the Baltimore Symphony, and the prestigious Theatre Chamber Players of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to his many recital and solo appearances with bands and orchestras, Mr. Cameron has performed at the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institute, and for Pope John Paul II on his first visit to the Unites Sates. He has been first trumpet with the Chesapeake Brass Quintet for over twenty years. Mr. Cameron also performs as soloist on an album by Spectrum Records.

Mr. Cameron’s unique teaching style and uncanny insight have made him one of the most sought after trumpet teachers on the East coast. Local and out-of-state trumpet teachers (one as far away as Iowa) have sent problem students to Mr. Cameron for analysis. Hence, the comment by a former colleague calling Mr. Cameron “… a teacher’s teacher.” Not only do students of Mr. Cameron attend UMBC, many have been accepted with scholarship to: Eastman School of Music, Oberlin, Berkley School of Music, Shenandoah Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory, Cleveland Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard, and Peabody Conservatory. Many of his students are taking their places in teaching and performing positions across this country and Europe.
