Dr. Seyoung Jeong

Dr. Seyoung Jeong is on the voice faculty of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Outside of school, she is the artistic director of Gigli International Opera; on the artist faculty of InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy; and the choir director of Virginia Presbyterian Church. Previously, she was the principal opera coach at the Catholic University of America and George Mason University.

Dr. Jeong has performed as a soprano and collaborative pianist throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Notable concert venues she has performed at include Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Capital One Hall, Strathmore, Hochstein Performance Hall, and National Opera Center. Her operatic roles include the role of Mimi in La Boheme with Villa in Canto Opera in Italy; Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro with New York Lyric Opera and Eastman Opera; and Angelica in Suor Angelica with Bel Cantanti Opera. She also has appeared as a soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater; Vivaldi’s Gloria; Bach’s St. Matthew Passion; Handel’s Messiah; Mozart’s Coronation Mass; Beethoven’s C major Mass and Missa Solemnis; Schumann’s Requiem for Mignon; Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Brahms’ Requiem; Dubois’ The Seven Last Words of Christ; and Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music.

Dr. Jeong earned her Master’s degree in Voice Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music. Before attending Eastman, she earned her Doctoral degree in Piano Performance from WVU; a Master’s degree from Duquesne University; and another M.M. and a B.M. from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, Korea.
