Mr. Sammy Huh, Director

A course designed for 8-15 advanced vocalists, Opera Workshop offers students the opportunity to study stage acting, movement, and character development within the sphere of musical performance. The fall semester typically involves students perfecting shorter scenes, while in the spring semester a performance of a short opera or comparable project is planned.

When does Opera Workshop rehearse?

Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00-5:15 in the Linehan Concert Hall

Who should audition for Opera Workshop?

All vocal performance majors and any student (music major or non-major) who has strong vocal and music reading skills, stage experience, and a creative imagination. It is expected that any singer cast in Workshop performances would be concurrently enrolled in voice lessons. Opera Workshop is an auditioned cast in the Spring; individual meeting times with the conductor are brief and informal.

When are auditions for Opera Workshop held?
Contact Sammy Huh to express your interest in registering, and to arrange for an interview/audition.

Will singing in Opera Workshop satisfy my Arts and Humanities General Education Program (GEP) requirements?

Yes, if for one semester you register concurrently for MUSC358 Music in Performance, a one-hour, once-a-week lecture course that introduces students to important topics in music performance and criticism.
