Description

Established in 2024, the Smithsonian Academy Orchestra brings together top early music specialists to perform classical works on period instruments under the direction of Kenneth Slowik. The ensemble will present a program of works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn:

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) — Symphony No. 91 in E-flat major (1788)
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827) — Coriolan Overture, Op. 62 (1807)
Felix Mendelssohn (1908–1847) — Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90, “Italian” (1833)

The Smithsonian Academy Orchestra is a program of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, presented in cooperation with The Smithsonian Associates, and made possible by the generous support of The Honorable John FW Rogers and Goldman Sachs.
