Description

In the spirit of armchair travelers everywhere, the Voyager Ensemble, co-directed by Airi Yoshioka and  David Yang, explores a new country of the world every concert by combining standard repertoire along with a contemporary work by a composer from the region. This year’s concert focuses on FINLAND with directors Yoshioka and Yang joined by eminent Finnish musicians Kurt Nikkanen and Martti Rousi for the music of Rautavaara, Kaila, and Sibelius. Past concerts have featured performers and music from Hungary, France, and Argentina.

String Quartet No. 1 (1952) – Einojuhani Rautavaara (1928 – 2016)
Wisteria (2003) for string quartet – Ilari Kaila
String Quartet in D Minor, Opus 56, ‘Voces Intimae’ (1909) – Jean Sibelius (1865 – 1957)

TICKETS: $15 general admission, $10 seniors, $5 students, free for UMBC music majors and music faculty/staff, available online or at the box office one hour prior to the performance.

UMBC is located about 10 minutes south of the Inner Harbor along I-95. For this event, free visitor parking is available in Lot 8, directly adjacent to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building, where Linehan Concert Hall is located — please visit here for additional information.
