Assistant Professor of Music – Piano Performance

The Department of Music at UMBC seeks an Assistant Professor (full-time, tenure track) in Piano Performance, to begin August 23, 2019. As an active performer, this individual will be responsible for teaching and successfully recruiting piano performance majors, with additional teaching, advising, and service responsibilities assigned based on candidate expertise and departmental needs.

The successful applicant will be an active performer who is experienced in classical and contemporary art music, but who may have expertise in musics of other cultural traditions that reflect the candidate’s areas of interest and abilities. Demonstrated excellence in teaching piano is required. This individual will be a skilled soloist and chamber musician, and will perform with the faculty contemporary ensemble Ruckus as well as in other faculty chamber music performances. A secondary research area is not required, but may include composition, conducting, or music history or theory. Salary competitive. Doctorate preferred, or M.M. with equivalent performance experience required; successful teaching of undergraduate level students or equivalent graduate training is desired.
