Description
The Department of Music presents the UMBC Symphony Orchestra, which performs orchestral literature from the 18th to the 21st centuries, including standard repertoire and contemporary works from a broad range of musical styles, under the direction of its new conductor, Philip Mann.
The program features Seven O’Clock Shout by Valerie Coleman, a 2020 work commissioned by the Philadelphia Orchestra and written in response to the pandemic, as well as the Carmen Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet.
The concerts also highlights the winners of the UMBC Symphony Concerto Competition, with Rachmaninoff‘s Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Nicole Johnson, and George Gershwin‘s Rhapsody in Blue performed by Dave Warshaw.
The new UMBC Chamber Orchestra, a group of select string players from the Symphony, will perform La Follia by Arcangelo Corelli.
