Description
The Department of Music presents Sarah Kane, a Philadelphia-based, self-taught artist who seamlessly combines art and music, giving audiences the opportunity to see her artwork unfold while listening to music she has written and performed. She is fond of calling this process the delivery of an “art bomb.”
Her debut album, ARTIST, to be released in early 2023, consists of nine paintings and accompanying songs with roots in Americana, Blues and R&B, all composed on guitar by Kane. The album was co-produced by Kane and world-class drummer/producer Eric “Boots” Greene (Wiz Khalifa, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys). The paintings took anywhere from 35 to over 200 hours to create and were filmed using time-lapsed video without color correction. The music is composed as fluidly as the art, which Kane attributes to her being able to paint “whatever I can see.” Two singles from the album, “Walking Away” and “I Don’t Know,” were released in 2022 under her independent record label, ArtSlinger Records. Kane performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra while a member of the Philadelphia Singers and is honored to have sang the National Anthem for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013.
Kane attended UMBC on an athletic scholarship and graduated in 2006 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and music composition.
