UMBC String Day is designed to welcome prospective students to the UMBC Department of Music and showcase the excellence, creativity, and community of the string program. The event provides a blend of performance, interaction, and learning opportunities that:
- Introduce students to UMBC faculty and facilities.
- Encourage participation in chamber music and creative collaboration
- Support recruitment for the 2026–27 academic year
- Strengthen connections with local music programs and teachers.

9:00-9:30 a.m. Check-in and Welcome
9:30-10:00 a.m. Faculty & Student Performance/Presentations
10:00-10:40 a.m. Interactive Full String Ensemble Reading Session
10:40-11:00 a.m. Coffee & Snack Break
11:00-11:30 a.m. Facility Tour
11:30-12:30 p.m. Chamber Music reading session
- Participants form small ensembles (duos, trios, quartets)
- Faculty rotate between groups for brief coaching (focus on teamwork, listening, and creative collaboration).
12:30-1:15 p.m. Open Masterclass
- Pre-registered students perform short works (5–7 minutes each)
- Faculty provide constructive feedback, observation open to all attendees
